Data Sharing Opt-Outs

If you choose not to share your data for research and planning through either Type 1 Opt-Out or National Data Opt-Out, we will stop receiving and processing your data for research as soon as possible. However, we may continue to process existing de-identified data, as we have no way of identifying individual patient data in order to remove it.

Opting out of data sharing
You have two ways to choose how your data is used for research and planning:

  1. Type 1 Opt-Out: This means your GP practice will not share your data for research or planning outside of your GP practice. You can set this up by speaking to your GP practice. You can opt out, and opt back in, at any time.
  2. National Data Opt-Out: This means NHS England and other organisations will not share your data for research and planning. You can opt out, and opt back in, at any time.

The quality of health research is better if all patients contribute their data.
