Simon de Lusignan
Professor of Primary Care and Clinical Informatics
I am a senior academic GP with research interests in clinical informatics and health outcomes and lead the Clinical Informatics and Health Outcomes research group.. Alongside my Departmental role I am a Senior Research Fellow of Green Templeton College.
My research interests focus on the use of routine data for surveillance, quality improvement, research and education as well as how technology has enabled new roles in health care and support self-management. My principal areas of work are in monitoring acute respiratory infections and other diseases from routine health data and determining vaccine effectiveness. I also have a strong interest in cardiometabolic disease.
I am Director of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC). This is one of Europe's oldest sentinel systems. The RSC has produced a weekly report of influenza, respiratory and other infections in primary care for nearly 60 years. The RSC is sponsored by, and works closely with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to to provide the national primary care sentinel network. More information at: www.rcgp.org.uk/rsc
The RSC now has over 2,000 general practice members sharing pseudonymised data, a registered population base of >23 million. We have direct links with our RSC member practices who collect samples and are also very willing to recruit to research studies.
