ORCHID Data Use Under GDPR
- The University relies on Article 6(1)(e) [public task] for processing personal data for its core research activities; namely; the University carries out research in the public interest as part of its objectives under its charitable status.
- The additional condition required to process special category data is that the processing is necessary for research purposes under Article 9(2)(j) of the UK GDPR. These basis apply to researchers from the University and other entities when conducting their own, respective, research projects with ORCHID data.
- If your processing is unlikely to be covered by the University’s public task (research), the University may rely on Article 6(1)(f) [legitimate interests] of the UK GDPR. the University has drafted a Legitimate Interest Assessment template which must be completed if sharing pseudonymised data in ORCHID with other entities for research purposes.
